Fourth Floor Musings
I lived in Helsinki for a year, in a small corner apartment on the fourth floor, facing one of the busiest intersections of the city.

It was a lot of things in terms of photography. A rough diamond, a nightmare, a bad B-movie, a really awkward porn movie (yes, really…!). Looking out those windows onto one of Helsinki’s most crowded intersections, I’ve seen it all. I would almost say “literally”.
I had my camera set up by default on the tripod on a table facing out onto the intersection.
Some of the pictures I’ve taken, I guess should probably have not been taken at all. But alas… “Street photography” is still that thing…
The series is two-fold. The quiet, individualistic, sometimes socially awkward side of society vs. the always busy intersection into the distance.
All images were taken in the time of a year, all from the same window.
Ik heb een jaar in Helsinki gewoond in een klein hoekappartement op de derde verdieping, met zicht op één van de drukste kruispunten van de stad.

Het was een heleboel dingen m.b.t. fotografie. Een ruwe diamant, een nachtmerrie, een slechte B-film, een hele ongemakkelijke pornofilm (yep, echt waar…!).
Uitkijkend over een van Helsinki’s drukste kruispunten, heb ik zo’n beetje alles gezien. Bijna letterlijk.
Ik had mijn camera altijd op de driepoot op een tafel voor het raam, uitkijkend op het kruispunt. Sommige van de foto’s die ik daar genomen heb, hadden waarschijnlijk helemaal niet genomen moeten worden. Maar alas… “Straatfotografie” is nog steeds dat allesomvattende ding.
De serie is tweeledig. De stille, individualistische, soms sociaal ongemakkelijke kant van de maatschappij tegenover het altijd drukke kruispunt uitlopend naar de horizon.
Alle foto’s zijn genomen in een jaar, allemaal vanuit hetzelfde raam.
