the garden .spider (pt. ii)

I have a thing for/with spiders. I said that in part I, and I’ll probably repeat that in every part, which still comes. We’ve had a mad summer. For “our” standards it’s been scorching. It’s been dry. It’s been a “road of suffering” for those who are not used to this kind of weather (and it will be a more normal thing as time passes, or so we are told, so we better get used to it. But that’s a different tale).
Usually throughout summer you see a web here and there, but it’s been suspiciously quiet on the spider front.

The end of summer

The heat is off now. There will be a few stray days of higher temperatures, but summer is essentially over. I never thought I’d say this, but…. bring on the rain. Please! We need it, the earth needs it. And I want my spiders. Now that temperatures are dropping, slowly the spiders are coming out again. They’re not (yet) the large ones like last year around the same time, but give it some time.

Get ready for Shelob and Aragog

I’ll be out, camera at the ready, looking for the big ones again. The bigger, and the hairier, the better.
