.pms: dried skin on printing inks
The idea for this one came to me long time ago, when photography was still only a hobby for me. I was working as a full-colour printer in a large-ish printing house. Part of the job─obviously─was mixing inks from the Pantone Matching System. Most of the times when we had to mix inks, the first thing we had to do was scrape off the skin which had dried up on top of the ink. Along the line I learned that depending on the time the ink had not been used (had been drying up, so to speak) in combination with the basic viscosity of the ink, the patterns growing in the skin forming on the ink would differ. That gave me the idea for “PMS”. Below are three examples from a larger series, which can be found in the Fine Art section here. Prints are available. These look really great printed on metal or acrylic.
